Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus arrived in London today for a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom (UK), aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage landed at Heathrow International Airport at approximately 7:05 am (London time), according to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder. Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK, Abida Islam, received Professor Yunus at the airport. Earlier, on Monday evening, Professor Yunus departed Dhaka for London. At a pre-visit briefing on June 4, 2025, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique stated that the Chief Adviser will have an audience with His Majesty King Charles III and hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is also expected to meet with the Chief Adviser during the visit.

In recognition of his global contributions, Professor Yunus has been nominated by King Charles III for the prestigious 'King Charles III Harmony Award 2025'. The award honours individuals whose work promotes peace, sustainability, and harmony between people and the environment. It will be conferred at a formal ceremony at St James’s Palace in London on June 12. The King’s Foundation, established in 1990 by the then Prince of Wales, presents the annual award to individuals demonstrating outstanding achievements in sustainable development and humanitarian causes. During the visit, Professor Yunus is also scheduled to hold courtesy meetings with the Secretaries-General of the Commonwealth and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), underscoring Bangladesh’s active role in global diplomacy. As part of his public outreach, he will deliver a keynote address at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, on June 11. The Chief Adviser is expected to return to Bangladesh on June 14.
