Fakhrul Calls for Justice Over Chhatra Dal Leader Shammo's Murder

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has demanded justice for the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a leader of the Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Dal, who was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants.

Fakhrul made the demand in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (May 14) morning.

In his post, he wrote: “He will never stand tall again, never attend another concert, never dance to music, never dream again, or think about his future.”

He added: “This was not just the murder of one person — it was the death of thousands of dreams. We demand justice for our son Shammo. We demand justice for the killing of our child. The interim government must answer for this.”

On Tuesday (May 13) around midnight, Shammo (25) was stabbed by assailants in Suhrawardy Udyan. He was critically injured and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 12:15 am.

Shammo was a student of the 2018–19 academic session at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of Dhaka University. He also served as the literary and publications secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Chhatra Dal.
