The Ganosamhati Andolan has organized a human chain to demand an end to discriminatory budget allocation and an increase in the upcoming national budget for the 2025-2026 FY for Rangpur division.

The Rangpur district unit of Ganosamhati Andolon organised the human chain and rally in front of the city's Press Club premises on Tuesday afternoon.

Rangpur district convener of the Ganosamhati Andolan Tauhidul Islam presided over the program moderated by its publicity and office coordinator Pratyayee Mizan.

Member-secretary of Rangpur district Ganosamhati Andolan Mufakhkharul Islam Moon, its metropolitan unit convener Abdul Jabbar Sarkar, organizer Rubel Ashraf, labor leaders Jobaidul Islam Jobed and Azizar Rahman, Rangpur district convener of the Students Federation AK Kajal Roy and secretary Al Tanzil addressed, among others.

The speakers said that even after 54 years of independence, inequality has always been observed in the development of Rangpur division.

Although the government budget prioritizes development activities centered on the capital and the southern region, the northern region, especially Rangpur division, is not allocated accordingly.

As a result, the improvement of the living standards of the people of this region, industrialization, agriculture, health and education services are being repeatedly hampered.

Mufakhkharul Islam Moon said, "The people of Northbengal, especially Rangpur, have been politically neglected for a long time. To resolve this inequality, a fair share in the budget allocation must be ensured."

He said that to ensure the development of Rangpur, not only the budget but also the political power of the people must be ensured.

Tauhidul Islam called for making the upcoming national elections participatory and acceptable to the people and bringing the desired changes through a democratic Constitution Reform Council.

At the end of the rally, the leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Advisor through the Deputy Commissioner.

Leaders and activists of the Rangpur district and metrological units of Ganosamhati Andolon and the general public participated spontaneously in the program.
