German parliamentary delegation visits Meghna Economic Zone

A high-level parliamentary delegation from the Bundestag, the Federal Parliament of Germany, visited the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) on Friday to explore avenues for deepening bilateral trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between Germany and Bangladesh.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mostafa Kamal, Chairman and Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI).

The delegation was led by Nicklas Kappe, MP, followed by Gerold Otten- Colonel (retd), MP, Johann Saathoff, MP, and Ursula Schauws, MP, along with Anja Katerina Elisabeth Bienert, accompanying officer from the Administration of the German Bundestag, and interpreter Max Doerfler.

The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, along with his senior officials from the German Embassy in Dhaka, including Olga Nowikow Winnen, Economic Attaché, Monika Reuter, Head of Political, Press and Culture, Miftahul Jannat, Political and Press Officer, and Mehrab Bin Tarek, Economic Affairs Officer, said a press release today.

The German delegation visited the key facilities and features of MIEZ, with special focus on two German-owned factories operating within the zone- CHT Bangladesh Limited and Siegwerk Bangladesh Limited. Most factories within MIEZ rely on German machinery and technology, underlining the deep industrial ties between the two nations.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Parliament of Germany MP Nicklas Kappe, said, "It is encouraging to see the strong presence of German industry and technology at MIEZ. Visits like this reaffirm the depth of the economic partnership between Germany and Bangladesh, and we look forward to seeing this cooperation grow further in the years ahead."

MGI Chairman and MD Mostafa Kamal said, "I am honored to welcome a high-level parliamentary delegation from the German Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany, to MIEZ. Germany has long been one of Bangladesh's key economic and development partners. This relationship is built on decades of cooperation in infrastructure, health, and energy, along with growing efforts in trade, investment, and human resource development."

He added, "MIEZ is Bangladesh's most modern private economic zone. It offers uninterrupted power, gas, and water supply, reliable security, waste management, and its own fire-fighting system. We invite our German investors to invest more here, and we assure them of full support and cooperation."

In addition to MIEZ, MGI is working on two other private economic zones available for investors: Cumilla Economic Zone and Titas Economic Zone.

The group has developed its economic zones as modern, investor-friendly hubs with comprehensive facilities and security systems. Apart from local industries, companies from Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, India, China, Belgium, and the United States have already established factories in these zones.
