Miscreants wearing masks set a police van on fire in Gopalganj on Wednesday morning, leaving five police personnel injured. The incident occurred around 9:00 am in the Khatiaghar area of Durgapur Union under Sadar Upazila. According to police and local sources, tension had been running high in the district following the announcement that central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) would visit Gopalganj as part of their July march. On Wednesday morning, while on routine patrol, a police van was passing through the Khatiaghar area when around 40 to 50 masked individuals suddenly attacked it and set it ablaze. Five police members inside the van sustained injuries.The attackers also attempted to seize the van. Upon receiving an alert, another nearby police patrol team rushed to the scene, prompting the assailants to flee.

The injured police members were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment. A local woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “They were all wearing masks. Suddenly, they set fire to the police vehicle. When we tried to get closer, they warned us to stay away.” Additional Superintendent of Police Ruhul Amin said, “Police have inspected the scene. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. We are making every effort to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.”
