Media Urged to Provide Fair and Objective Coverage During Elections

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has requested the media to cover the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections in a fair and objective manner. The request came from a meeting held under the chairmanship of Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam at his ministry on September 7 this year, said a press release today.   Newspaper editors, publishers, and journalists were present at that meeting, which discussed the role of the media in the pre-election, election, and post-election periods.

During the meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and the need for media cooperation to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair, impartial, participatory, and festive. As part of the several decisions taken in the meeting, the media will cooperate with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in conducting awareness campaigns to promote transparency and credibility in the electoral process. Journalists and media outlets will take an active role in preventing misinformation, disinformation, and rumors by presenting accurate and objective news during all phases of the election.

Media houses will develop and adopt small-scale in-house fact-checking systems to verify information before publication or broadcast. News coverage will remain balanced, factual, and impartial, maintaining equal perspectives on all parties and issues to help strengthen public trust in the electoral process. Following the meeting, concerned authorities have been requested to take necessary measures to implement these decisions to ensure a credible and trustworthy media environment during the election period.
