Muhit urges dengue awareness messaging as nationwide digital campaign begins

A 3-month nationwide special digital awareness campaign has begun to prevent dengue, with State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit urging citizens, particularly content creators and social media influencers, to actively participate in spreading awareness through Facebook and other social media platforms.

"Dengue cannot be fully controlled through administrative measures or insecticide spraying alone; individual and collective awareness and participation are crucial to prevent the disease," Dr Muhit said in a message today.

Highlighting the extensive influence of social media, the state minister said active public participation and dissemination of timely information can significantly reduce the risk of dengue.

He particularly called upon young people, content creators and influencers on social media to come forward and contribute to the campaign.

Dr Muhit called for a massive campaign with uploading and sharing of dengue awareness content, reels and stories.

Many content creators have already joined the dengue awareness campaign through the Health Ministry, he said.

Referring to international public health practices, the state minister said content creators can easily convey important messages on dengue prevention through creative videos, info graphics and social media posts, including the need to get rid of stagnant water, keep surroundings clean and seek prompt medical attention when symptoms appear.

“Everyone can contribute to this national initiative by creating awareness content,” he said.

Over the next three months, the digital campaign will extensively disseminate information through social media on destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, dengue symptoms and primary care.

Citizens have also been urged to keep their homes, yards and workplaces clean and spread dengue prevention messages across the virtual space.
