New Govt Degree College produced many distinguished figures: Land Minister

Land Minister Md Mizanur Rahman Minu today said New Govt Degree College, Rajshahi is one of the country's renowned educational institutions that has produced many distinguished personalities who are contributing to national development at home and abroad.

He said this while addressing the inauguration of the registration programme for the reunion of the Dhaka-based HSC Alumni Association of New Govt Degree College at Hare Road in the capital.

Culture Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury attended the programme as the special guest.

The Land Minister said the college's distinguished alumni include former Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Salahuddin, an Air Vice Marshal of the Bangladesh Air Force, government secretaries, senior officials and leading businesspeople.

He said the institution's students had also achieved outstanding results in HSC examinations, securing positions on merit lists.

The minister said the government has undertaken various initiatives to improve the education system, prevent dropouts and support disadvantaged and economically weaker students.

Menu also recalled with respect the contributions of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to women's education and the expansion of education in the country.

Rajshahi Mentioning that the college is now in its 58th year, he said a large-scale 60th anniversary celebration would be organised with former students from home and abroad.

He also announced that the college's dilapidated auditorium would soon be renovated.

Principal Professor Dr Shikha Sarker presided over the programme, while Rajshahi-3 lawmaker and chief patron of the alumni association Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon delivered the welcome address.

The reunion will be held on December 26.
