People of Bangladesh Will Never Allow Another ‘Hasina-Style’ Election: Selim Uddin

Md. Selim Uddin, member of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Ameer of Dhaka City North, said that the people of Bangladesh will never again allow a one-sided “Hasina-style” election to take place. He stated that the people now demand change and want to establish a people’s government through a free, fair, and credible election.
In a statement issued today, he said that the past few elections have clearly proven that no free and impartial election is possible under the current government. The Awami League government has snatched away the people's right to vote and pushed the country toward one-party rule.
Selim Uddin further said that a mass movement has become an inevitable reality. To protect the country’s independence and sovereignty and to restore democracy, he called for the formation of a national unity. He urged all Islamic, patriotic, and pro-democracy forces to come together in the movement to reclaim the people's rights. In his statement, he also reiterated the demand for holding the upcoming national election under a neutral caretaker government.
