Senior Secretary calls land management digitization a landmark initiative

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land ASM Saleh Ahmed today said the digital transformation of land management marks a significant milestone in progress. He said this while addressing a workshop on the software component of the “Establishment of Digital Land Management System (EDLMS)” project held at the conference room of the Land Bhaban in the capital, said an official handout.

The senior secretary said the government has undertaken the EDLMS project to make Bangladesh’s land administration and management more transparent, accountable, and accessible to citizens. The project has made land administration smart, digital, and citizen-friendly, he said, adding its main objective is to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in delivering land-related services. The senior secretary said the technology-driven initiative has enhanced administrative efficiency and made public service delivery more effective and transparent.

It plays a crucial role in resolving land-related complexities, establishing transparency, and providing citizens with faster and more accurate services, he said. He further said that one of the biggest benefits of digital land surveying is the accurate measurement and preservation of land records. Previously, manual surveys often led to human errors, irregularities, and forgery, he said.

Now, with the use of satellite technology and Geographic Information System (GIS), it has become possible to precisely determine land areas and boundaries, significantly reducing ownership-related disputes, he added. Land Record and Survey Department Director General Md. Saidur Rahman presided over the workshop. Dr. Jaeyong Yoo, CEO of Korean company Geomexsoft, attended the event as special guest. Among others, Chairman of the Land Appeal Board Dr. Md. Mahmud Hassan and senior officials of the Ministry of Land were present.
