Seven Crude Bombs Seized Near DU and High Court

Police recovered seven unexploded crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, from the Dhaka University (DU) area and the road in front of the High Court on Monday morning. Miscreants reportedly abandoned the explosives in the early hours of the day. According to police and university sources, six unexploded cocktails were spotted under a tree beside the Kazi Motahar Hossain Building (Law Building) on the DU campus. The university’s proctorial team and Shahbagh Police Station were immediately informed. The bomb disposal unit was later notified and recovered the cocktails around 9:30am.
Meanwhile, two crude bombs were thrown near the entrance of the High Court Mazar and across the adjacent road. One exploded in front of the Mazar gate, while the other remained unexploded. The bomb disposal unit later arrived at the scene and secured the area. Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, “In the morning, security personnel first noticed two food boxes. Upon suspicion, they opened the bags and found objects wrapped in red tape. We then informed the police. First the police came, followed by the bomb disposal unit. The matter is under police investigation.” Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khalid Monsur said, “The crude bombs have been recovered and defused by the bomb disposal unit.”
