Stocks rebounded today after two consecutive sessions of correction as renewed buying in sector-specific large-cap stocks helped the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) return to positive territory.

The DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 22.6 points to settle at 5,845, compared with 5,822 in the previous trading session.

The market opened on a positive note and maintained the upward trend throughout the session, although a brief mid-session correction saw intermittent selling pressure.

However, resilient buying interest helped the market recover and close higher.

Renewed buying interest in insurance stocks also gained momentum, with opportunistic investors chasing potential quick gains.

Despite the rebound, overall investor sentiment remained cautious amid persistent domestic uncertainties and geopolitical headwinds.

Market turnover declined 5.8 percent to Tk 9.1 billion from Tk 9.6 billion in the previous session, indicating relatively subdued trading activity despite the rise in the benchmark index.

General Insurance accounted for the highest share of turnover at 22.8 percent, followed by Textile at 19.6 percent and Pharma at 8.8 percent.

Sectoral performance remained mixed. General Insurance advanced 2.7 percent, while Miscellaneous and Services gained 2.1 percent each.

On the losing side, Cement declined 1.2 percent, followed by Financial Institutions at 0.6 percent and Travel at 0.4 percent.

Of the 395 issues traded, 197 advanced, 127 declined and 71 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended higher. Its selected index, CSCX, gained 17.7 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced 10.6 points.
