Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don today said there is no alternative to tree plantation for building a healthy and environment-friendly city. He made the remarks while inaugurating a tree plantation programme under the nationwide initiative launched today by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years. The RpCC Administrator planted a fruit and medicinal tree sapling in the Uttam Bottola Bazar area under Ward No 2 in the city as the chief guest.

Under the month-long programme, 50,000 fruit, forest and medicinal tree saplings will be planted along roads, at educational institutions, places of worship and open spaces in all 33 wards of the city. Addressing the programme, Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don said, "Tree plantation must be turned into a social movement to create a greener environment, mitigate the impacts of climate change and maintain ecological balance."

He urged residents from all walks of life, especially youths, to plant trees in every vacant space and in their homesteads and take proper care of the saplings to make the city greener and protect the environment.  RpCC Executive Engineer (Region-2) Abdus Selim Jewel, Rangpur Metropolitan BNP members Mohsin Ali, Mozahar Hossain Batul, Rangpur Metropolitan Jubo Dal Senior Joint Convener Jahir Alam Nayan, Member Secretary Atiqul Islam Lelin, Rangpur Metropolitan Swechchasebak Dal Convener Imran Hossain, Member Secretary Nur Hasan Sumon, among others, were present.
