Two children drown in separate incidents in Netrakona

Two toddlers drowned in separate incidents in different ponds in Kalmakanda and Purbadhala upazilas of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Tayeba, 18 months, daughter of Mujibur Rahman of Shingkata village in Rangchhati Union of Kalmakanda and Amir Hamza Taskin, 16 months, son of Shahid Mia of Purbapara village in Khalishaur Union of Purbadhala upazila.

Tayeba fell into a pond near her house around 10 am while playing in the courtyard. Her family members noticed that she was missing and began searching for her. Later, they recovered her from the pond and took Tayeba to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex where the attending physician declared her dead.

Kalmakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Rana confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, Amir Hamza Taskin fell into a nearby pond while playing in the courtyard of his house without the knowledge of his family members.At around 1.50pm, the child's cousin, Mahfuzul Haque, spotted his lifeless body floating in the pond.

Afterward, relatives then rescued the child and rushed him to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared him dead.

OC of Purbadhala Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said the child drowned after falling into the pond.
