Bangladesh suffer defeat to Montenegro

Bangladesh suffered 0.5-3.5 defeat against Montenegro in the Open section at the ninth round of the FIDE 46th Chess Olympiad which is now being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, said a press release today.

In Friday's ninth-round matches, International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman was the only Bangladeshi player to secure a result, drawing his game against Montenegro's Grandmaster Cadric Denis.

International Master Manon Reja Neer, FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia and Grandmaster Niaz Murshed lost their respective games to Montenegro's Grandmasters Petrov Nikita, Djukic Nikola and Draskovic Luka.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's women's team produced a strong performance, defeating Lebanon 3-1 in their ninth round encounter.

Women International Master Wadifa Ahmed, Women FIDE Master Noshin Anjum and Women Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo secured victories for Bangladesh against Lebanon's Women Candidate Master Al Asmar Remy, Abou Taam Fatima and Kobeissey Jessica, respectively. Women Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed suffered a defeat against Lebanon's Attieh Kate.

Following nine rounds, Bangladesh's women's team have accumulated 11 points, while the open team have earned 10 points.

Woman Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo achieved Woman FIDE Master Title from this Olympiad. She scored 6 points from 9 games.
