Run for Silk City held in Rajshahi

A 10-kilometre challenge marathon titled 'Run for Silk City 2026' was held in Rajshahi today to promote the city's rich silk heritage and encourage a healthy lifestyle among people.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated the marathon at 6:00am in front of the Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board.

Organized by the Silk City Runners Community, the race passed through Bhadra Mor, Talaimari and Saheb Bazar before ending at Hazrat Shah Makhdum Central Eidgah, where the closing ceremony and medal distribution were held.

Around 1,200 runners from across the country, including women, men, children and elderly participants, joined the event.

Speaking at the programme, Riton said such events would help introduce Rajshahi's silk heritage to the new generation while promoting physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

He also urged people to work together to make Rajshahi a clean and healthy city and called for greater awareness to prevent dengue.

Among others, Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board Director General Toufiq Al Mahmud, Silk City Runners Community Chief Adviser Mahfuzul Hasnain Hikol and its Founder and Member Secretary Zahidul Islam Sunny attended the programme.
