The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has recovered the goods looted from a merchant ship named ‘MV Sejunti’ located at Mongla Port. In this incident, 3 smugglers including the ship’s chief engineer were arrested along with the looted goods within 36 hours of the incident.

BCG West Zone Operations Officer Lieutenant Commander Abrar Hasan said in a press briefing, “At 3 am on Tuesday, about 12 robbers attacked the Bangladeshi ship anchored in the Bays Creek area of ​​the port with local sharp weapons, took the sailors hostage and looted the machinery and goods. On receiving the information, the BCG raided Mongla Municipality on the same night, recovered the looted goods and arrested 3 people including the ship’s chief engineer Md Sirajul Islam, 55. The other two are Sumon Hossain, 45, a porter from the municipality, and Sumon Hawlader, 25, a member of the group that directly participated in the robbery.”

The recovered goods were handed over to the ship’s authorities and the detainees were handed over to the Mongla Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
