Police have rescued Sushanta Kumar Majumder, a food inspector who was abducted in Khulna. He was found with his hands, feet, and eyes tied at the premises of Azgara BRB High School in Terokhada upazila around 12:30 am on Monday (July 14). According to sources, Sushanta was abducted around 7:00 pm on Sunday (July 13) from the No. 4 Ghat area in the city by a group of individuals who reportedly identified themselves as police members. After the abduction, the kidnappers demanded a ransom from his family.

In response, his wife, Madhabi Rani Majumder, filed a written complaint at Khulna Sadar Police Station later that night. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Sadar Police Station, Hawlader Sanwar Hossain Masum, said that multiple police units launched raids from all directions following the abduction. Under pressure from the police operation, the kidnappers abandoned Sushanta in the playground of Azgara BRB High School with his hands, feet, and eyes bound, and then fled the scene. He was later rescued with the help of local police.

The OC added that the abductors had demanded money, and the victim’s family had sent a portion of the ransom via mobile banking. Police have since detained a mobile banking agent involved in the transaction for questioning.
