Bangladeshi Diploma Engineers Set for Jobs in Japan

New employment opportunities are being created in Japan for diploma engineers from Bangladesh, with students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute receiving Japanese language and technical training free of cost.

The initiative was announced at a review meeting held on Tuesday (August 25) at the meeting room of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Education and Primary and Mass Education, said Japan’s labour market is highly important for Bangladesh and that Japanese language training is being prioritised to facilitate the deployment of skilled workers.

He said the government would provide maximum support for Japanese instructors coming to Bangladesh to provide language training. The government is also working to open new overseas labour markets, promote the learning of third languages and strengthen the capacity of technical training centres.

Japanese language training for students at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute has already begun under an initiative of Town Life Japan Limited. Under a memorandum of understanding, diploma holders in civil, electrical and architecture disciplines will be sent to Japan on employment visas.

According to the meeting, the concerned Japanese company will bear all expenses for selected candidates, including language and technical training as well as the costs incurred until their departure for Japan. The company will also support the development of laboratories at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and provide necessary training equipment.

After joining their jobs in Japan, the selected engineers will receive monthly salaries along with overtime allowances and bonuses.

The Japanese language training of students from the first batch is already nearing completion, while training for the second batch is currently underway. Students who successfully pass the required language examinations will be sent to Japan for employment in phases.

Officials said the jobs of selected candidates from the first batch have already been confirmed. They are expected to begin joining their respective workplaces in Japan by October 2026. Other selected candidates are expected to have the opportunity to travel to Japan by January 2027.

The meeting was chaired by Mohammad Daud Mia, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division. Town Life Japan Limited Chief Executive Officer Tomizawa Kazunori, Branch Manager Okada Yohei, and senior officials from the ministry and Dhaka Polytechnic Institute were also present.
