Bankers call for successful implementation of refinancing schemes
High-ranking bankers emphasized the need for a greater role for all bankers concerned in developing agriculture in the country's northwest region.
They made the remarks while addressing a daylong "Town Hall Meeting" with the participation of bankers, agriculture, SME entrepreneurs and stakeholders held at the Primary Teachers Institute Auditorium in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed and devised ways and means to ensure necessary and effective publicity and successful implementation of the refinancing schemes of Taka 10,000 crore.
Announced by Bangladesh Bank to ensure the country's food security and create employment, the scheme of Taka 3,000 crore aims to create an agriculture-based regional hub in the northern region.
Under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank, Rupali Bank PLC and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) jointly performed duties as lead banks in organizing the meeting.
Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar was present at the event as the chief guest, while Managing Director of RAKUB Kazi Abdur Rahman was present as guest of honor.
Special guests present were Directors of Bangladesh Bank, Golam Mahmud, Nazim Uddin and Dr. Ismail Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board, Toufiq Al Mahmud.
The event was presided over by Nizam Uddin, General Manager of Rupali Bank PLC.
The chief guest and the invited special guests discussed in detail the two refinancing funds announced by Bangladesh Bank and emphasized their role in the development of agriculture in the country, especially in North Bengal.
Another panel discussion comprising senior bankers answered various questions from entrepreneurs and stakeholders, along with question-and-answer and two-way communication.
Local representatives and branch managers of all scheduled banks operating in Rajshahi and a large number of agriculture and SME entrepreneurs were present at the meeting.
