Call to pass Nazrul's literature and ideals to new generation

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam has called for conveying the literature, music and humanitarian-non-communal spirit of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to the new generation.

"Nazrul's literature and music inspire us to lead our lives in a beautiful, humanitarian and non-communal manner. So, conveying his creation to the new generation is an important responsibility," he said.

Shahidul Islam said this while inaugurating the "National Cultural Competition" before attending discussion and cultural programme organised on the occasion of 'Nazrul Barsho' as the chief guest at the District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium on Monday. 

The Rangpur District Administration and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs organised the event.

Students from different educational institutions are participating in the 'Educational Institution-Based Nazrul-related National Cultural Competition'. 

The Divisional Commissioner said, "The creation that National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam left behind in a short time is still playing an important role in our freedom struggle, national life, human values and cultural development."

If the national poet had a long and healthy life, Bengali literature and culture would have been more prosperous.

"In his creative life of just 22 years, Kazi Nazrul Islam contributed to literature and music for all people regardless of religion or caste."

His creativity continued despite the hardships and financial crises in his personal life. His life and literature are an example of talent development despite adversity.

Speaking as a special guest, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md Hamidul Haque said "Nazrul Barsho" is being celebrated to convey the life, literature and ideals of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to the new generation.

Different competitions including poetry recitation, Nazrul music, ghazal, hamd-naat, acting and painting are being organised in various educational institutions of the country to involve students in Nazrul's practice.

He said that in just 22 years of creative life, Nazrul has left behind important creations in various fields including poetry, songs, ghazals, 
Islamic music and Shyama Sangeet. His literature is a priceless asset of the Bengali language and culture, the Divisional Commissioner added. 

He expressed hope that the new generation will be able to learn about his literary works as well as the spirit of humanity, non-communalism and equality.

Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don, Rangpur Police Super Mohammad Mozammel Haque, District Council Administrator Md Saiful Islam, Rangpur Divisional Writers Council Central Committee President Kazi Md Junnun, Rangpur Government College Bengali Department Professor Md Motahar Hossain and District Cultural Officer K M Arifuzzaman spoke at the event, among others.

Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan presided over the programme.

Government officials, teachers and students of various educational institutions and journalists were present at the event. 

Later, a cultural programme was organised.
