After the death of the younger brother Mohabbat Ali, 60, in a clash between two BNP groups in Kaliganj Upazila of the district, elder brother Yunus Ali, 63, has also died while undergoing treatment at the Jashore 250-bed Hospital on Wednesday morning.
Earlier, on the morning of June 1, Mohabbat Ali, who was injured in an attack by opponents, died at Faridpur Medical College. Yunus Ali was undergoing treatment in Jashore after being injured while trying to save his brother. The deceased were said to be BNP activists. Besides, 4 more injured are undergoing treatment at various clinics including the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. The deceased Mohabbat Ali and Yunus Ali were the sons of late Habibar Rahman of Nakobaria Village in Jamal Union of the upazila.
It is worth mentioning that on June 1, two people were killed and 5/6 people were injured in a clash between the two BNP factions in Talian Nakobaria Village over dominance in the area. Several houses were vandalized and looted in the clash. Tension is rising in the area after the news of the death of a second person spread on Wednesday morning. A joint team of the police and the army has intensified their patrols to handle the situation. However, the common people are afraid that more clashes may occur in the area as the number of deaths has increased. The police have so far arrested 8 people since the incident.
Meanwhile, Inamul Haque, the son of the deceased, filed a murder case with Kaliganj Police Station last Tuesday accusing 58 people and 30/40 unknown people. A section of the BNP held a procession and protest meeting in the town on Tuesday night in protest against the naming of several BNP activists, including the Kaliganj Upazila BNP Joint Convener Dr Nurul Islam, in the case.
