CCC to tighten auto-rickshaw regulation for smoother city traffic
Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) has decided to strictly regulate and control the operation of auto-rickshaw to ensure smooth traffic management and navigability within the city. To realize this plan, the CCC has decided to allow only 10 thousand registered auto-rickshaw to operate in the city, though there are now roughly 48 thousand auto-rickshaw operating in the area.
CCC administrator Md. Yousuf Mollah revealed the scheme today during a view-exchange meeting this noon. He said the registration for the auto-rickshaw will begin next week and the registered vehicles will be provided with special license plate featuring eight-layer security protocols. So,there will be no scopes to make fake number plates,he added. “If anybody tries to use fake number plates, strict immediate actions will be taken against him by the mobile court,” he cautioned.
He added that the traffic jam in the city has been intensifying day by day due to excessive numbers of battery-run auto-rickshaw. For the same reason, the number of road accidents is increasing alarmingly, resulting in serious injuries and even deaths too, he noted. “The decision to control the number of auto-rickshaw has been taken to reduce public sufferings and restore the traffic order,” he said.
He also added that decision has been taken considering the public welfare and interest of the city dwellers. Officials from the CCC were present at the view-exchange meeting.
