Child drowns in fish enclosure in Gopalganj

A five-year-old girl drowned in the water of a fish enclosure at Bahirshimul village under Kotalipara upazila of the district today.

The deceased was identified as Ayesha Khanam, daughter of Taizul Shikdar of Bahirshimul village in the upazila.

The child's uncle, Likhan Shikdar, said, "While bathing in the waters of the enclosure at noon, I felt something touch my foot underwater. Upon reaching down, I discovered the body of my niece, Ayesha. She was quickly rescued and taken to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead."

Sub-Inspector (SI) Subir Kumar Saha of Kotalipara Police Station said the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy following their request.

A case of unnatural death was filed with the police station in connection with the incident.
