Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on information and broadcasting minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today. The meeting was held this morning at minister’s office at the Secretariat in Dhaka. The ambassador expressed China’s willingness to further strengthen relations with Dhaka in the fields of information and communication technology, diplomacy, training, and mass communication, assuring continued cooperation with the present government.

Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury, MP, and Information Secretary Mahbuba Farjana were present. The envoy proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries to strengthen cooperation between Chinese state media and Bangladeshi media outlets. He further said that China plans to organize two separate summits in July and October this year.

The events will facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and skills between Bangladeshi journalists and intellectuals, which he said would play an important role in enhancing bilateral relations. The information minister described China as a long-standing tested friend of Bangladesh and praised its remarkable technological progress. Strong Dhaka-Beijing relations would be mutually beneficial for the both countries, he said, adding it would also help both countries acquire new technological skills.

The minister also reiterated Bangladesh’s strong commitment to expanding cooperation in these sectors, saying Chinese proposal would be viewed positively in the context of evolving global realities.
