Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today expressed strong displeasure over the unhygienic conditions at the Azimpur Government Officers and Employees' Residential Quarters in the capital and gave the authorities two weeks to ensure a clean and habitable environment there.

He issued the directive during a surprise visit to the residential complex this afternoon, said his Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.

During the visit, the prime minister inspected different parts of the government quarters, including its surroundings and walkways.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of cleanliness and maintenance, he asked the authorities concerned about the reasons behind the situation and instructed them to take immediate and effective measures.

He asked the authorities to ensure visible improvements in the overall cleanliness of the residential complex within the next two weeks.

Hasan Shiplu said residents of the quarters also raised various complaints with the prime minister over the unhygienic environment and law and order situation in the area.

The prime minister listened to their complaints and asked the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to resolve the problems.

During the visit, he also exchanged greetings with children living in the residential complex.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam and Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam were present.
