The youth of Ramchandrapur Dakkhin Union in Muradnagar Upazila of the district have taken an exceptional initiative to create public awareness about drugs by focusing on the sacrificial animal market.

While visiting the sacrificial animal market at the Panchkitta High School grounds on Tuesday, it was found that they put up 29 banners with various slogans mentioning drug abuse and its harmful effects. This exceptional initiative of the youth was welcomed by the conscious people of the area. The buyers who came to buy animals at the sacrificial animal market also appreciated their exceptional initiative.

The initiators of this initiative, Raihan Uddin, Sajeeb Hasan, Md Masum and others of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, “Drugs are a social disease. This drug is destroying society day by day. As a result of drug consumption, youth are rapidly dying. To earn money for drugs, they are getting involved in various anti-social activities including theft and robbery.”

They also said, “To keep the society drug-free, every family must be aware. They must keep track of where, when, how, and with whom their children mix. This initiative is aimed at creating that awareness.”

Safiqul Islam, a teacher at Panchkitta High School, said, “Drugs destroy not only individuals but also families, societies and nations. Therefore, everyone should take drugs seriously and come forward to eradicate them. Such an exceptional awareness-raising initiative to protect the youth from the clutches of drugs is truly commendable. I don’t know if anyone has taken such an exceptional initiative at the sacrificial animal market before.”

Tajul Islam, a young entrepreneur of One Agro Farm, a volunteer for this exceptional initiative, said, “I have seen many cases in my area where children torture their parents for drugs. After seeing them, we have taken such an initiative with our youth in consultation with the elders of the area. If we get everyone’s cooperation, we hope to be able to protect the youth of the area from this menace of drugs.”

Fahad Bhoian, who came to buy cows, said, “To save the youth from the clutches of drugs, everyone has to work together. Parents have to be aware. I welcome those who have taken this exceptional initiative against drugs.”
