Farmer beaten dead over land dispute in Kaliganj

A farmer named Nayeb Ali, 62, was beaten to death in a land dispute in Maliat Village of Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
Nayeb Ali was sitting near his house at 10 am on Wednesday. At that time, Yunus Ali and his son Al-Amin came and beat him with a wooden stick and left him injured. At that time, neighbors rescued him and he died on the way to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
Locals said that Yunus Ali, a neighbor, bought the land of the deceased Nayeb Ali’s sister. There had been a long-standing dispute between the two families over the possession of that land. Nayeb Ali was beaten to death this morning over this incident.
Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr Khalid Hasan said that Nayeb Ali had died before being brought to the hospital. It is believed that he died due to the blow from the stick and excessive loss of blood.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Shahidul Islam Hawlader said that after receiving the news, police were sent to the spot. The body is at the hospital and will now be sent to the morgue for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
