Jahangir Issues Directives to Ensure Discipline in Cattle Markets

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said a set of instructions has been issued to the relevant authorities to ensure discipline and security in cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

"We have provided specific instructions to maintain order and security in the cattle markets," he said while speaking to journalists after a meeting on law and order centring Eid-ul-Azha at his ministry in the Secretariat.

The Home Adviser emphasized that no cattle markets are allowed to set up on roads and unloading cattle on the streets is strictly prohibited.
Vehicles and vessels transporting cattle must display a banner indicating the designated market for unloading, he added.

He further mentioned that instructions have been given to deploy at least 75 Ansar personnel in each cattle market to uphold security and discipline.

The Home Adviser also stated that vehicles and vessels are prohibited from carrying excess passengers or livestock during the Eid period.

"Legal action will be taken against those found violating these regulations," he warned.

Operations of bulkheads will be suspended five days before and three days after Eid, with no bulkheads permitted to ply the waterways during daylight hours, he noted.

The Home Adviser added that every cattle market must appoint a veterinarian and have provisions for administering first aid to injured individuals.

In response to a question, Jahangir urged all to conduct demonstrations within their own premises rather than on public roads, to minimize public inconvenience.

He also called upon the media to play an effective role in raising public awareness about the sufferings caused by such demonstrations.
