Jamalpur Observes National Fisheries Day

National Fisheries Day was observed at the hall room of Sadar Upazila Parishad in the district today.

The District Administration and the Fisheries Department jointly organized a three-day program, including a rally, a discussion meeting, the release of fish fries, a documentary film display, and essay and art competitions.

On the opening day, a discussion meeting was held in the hall room of Upazila Parishad with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali in the chair.

District Fisheries Officer, ANM Ashraful Kabir, read out the keynote paper marking the day.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali said using pesticide should be controlled for smooth breeding of fish. He said two fish sanctuaries on 4 kilometers water body should be set up in Melandah and Jamalpur Sadar Upazila for increasing natural fish production. 

He said mobile court against current nets and Chaina Duary net is continued to save native variety small fish. He stressed consciousness among people to stop illegal fishing and increasing fish production.

Superintendent of Police, Mst Farhana Yesmin, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Azizul Haque, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension, Mohammed Alam Sharif Khan and District Livestock Officer, Dr Md Sanwar Hossain spoke among others at the meeting.

Earlier a rally was brought out from the Vocational intersection area. The rally after parading the main roads ended at Upazila Parishad premises.

The Fisheries Department also released fish fries into the pond of the government orphanage in the town.
