BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is now scheduled to return to Bangladesh on May 6 via a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar, instead of the previously announced date of May 5.

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the development on Saturday (May 3), stating that the air ambulance will depart from London on Monday (May 5) and is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10:30 am on Tuesday (May 6).

He also mentioned that party leaders and activists across various levels are preparing to welcome their leader at the airport.

Khaleda Zia was arrested in 2018 in a corruption case and imprisoned in the Old Dhaka Central Jail. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the then-government released her under special consideration.

Following the fall of the Awami League government in August last year, the President issued an order for her release. Subsequently, the court quashed the verdicts in the two corruption cases in which she had been convicted.

On January 8 this year, Khaleda Zia was taken to London for advanced medical treatment. After 17 days of treatment at a London clinic, she moved to the residence of her son, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, on January 25. She celebrated Eid there with her family.

She is currently staying at her son's residence in London and is undergoing regular health check-ups. Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from several chronic conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart problems, diabetes, and arthritis.
