Mohanganj Express Coupling Fails, Engine Detaches from Coaches Midway

A mechanical failure has caused the Mohanganj Express to split mid-journey, leaving most of its coaches stranded on a bridge near the Chollisha area in Netrokona.

The train’s engine, along with one coach, continued on to Netrokona Railway Station on Saturday evening after a hook connecting it to the rest of the coaches snapped shortly after departing Shyamganj station.

No casualties were reported, said Station Master Abdullah Al Mamun. The incident occurred around 7:15pm.

“The train had just left Shyamganj when the hook failed near Chollisha,” he told bdnews24.com.

“Only the engine and one coach reached Netrokona. A rescue engine and technical crew from Mymensingh have been dispatched to reconnect the coaches and restore service.”

Photos shared on Facebook showed the stranded coaches at night, with passengers disembarking and seeking alternative transport.

Rafiquzzaman Idrisi, a passenger travelling to Mohanganj, said: “The train slowed down abruptly after leaving Shyamganj. Later we found out the engine had detached. Passengers had to continue their journeys on buses or CNG-run autorickshaws. Many struggled with their luggage—I took a bus.”
