Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Ibrahim alias Katappa, the prime accused and alleged shooter in the sensational murder of Fakhrul Islam in Rupsa upazila of Khulna, said a RAB press release.

A joint team of RAB-6's Special Company and CPC-3, Jashore Camp, arrested Ibrahim, 34, during an operation in the Sitarampur area under Jashore Sadar Police Station around 3 am on Sunday.

Ibrahim is the prime accused in the murder case filed over the killing of Fakhrul Islam, 32, of Rupsa.

According to the case statement, Fakhrul was staying at the office of his own Rupsa Bricks in Rupsa upazila on the night of August 12 when unidentified assailants opened fire on him and fled.

Local people rushed the critically injured Fakhrul to Rupsa Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Later, his brother Farhad Hossain filed a murder case with Rupsa Police Station the next day.

RAB said Ibrahim admitted his involvement in the killing during preliminary interrogation and confessed to shooting Fakhrul with a pistol on the day of the incident.

He also provided information about other people allegedly involved in the killing. The arrested accused was handed over to Rupsa Police Station for further legal action, the press release added.
