Public Awareness Meeting on RTI Held in Lalmonirhat
A discussion meeting on the 'Right to Information Act (RTI), 2009' was held on Thursday at Teesta Khalilur Rahman Khadem High School under Sadat upazila in Lalmonirhat district to increase public awareness. The Rangpur Regional Information Office organised the meeting with its Senior Information Officer Md Shahjahan Ali in the chair, said a press note issued by the Rangpur Regional PID Office here. Teesta Degree College Principal Md Golam Mostafa attended the event as the chief guest participated by more than 100 students of the school.
Headmaster of Teesta Khalilur Rahman Khadem High School Md Ekramul Haque Sarkar spoke as a special guest in the meeting moderated by Assistant Information Officer of Rangpur Regional Information Office Md Rupal Mia. Information Officer of Rangpur Regional Information Office Md Farhad Ahmed presented a documentary on the 'Right to Information Act, 2009' at the meeting. In his speech, the chief guest said that the proper implementation of the RTI Act plays an important role in empowering the people, besides ensuring transparency and accountability in government services.
"It is necessary to ensure the free flow of information through government and private institutions and organisations to establish good governance and ensure sustainable development," he added. He also expressed hope that such an event would have a positive impact on the personal and social lives of the students. In his closing speech, Senior Information Officer Md Shahjahan Ali said that effective implementation of the RTI Act is essential for establishing good governance in society and increasing transparency and accountability at all levels of government services.
"Proactive disclosure of information on development activities at the grassroots level will ensure proper utilization of resources and also play a helpful role in preventing corruption," he said. Addressing the students, Shahjahan Ali said that to acquire information-based knowledge, one should develop the habit of knowing and learning more from now on. He also urged the students to be aware of the RTI Act and to motivate others in this regard. Later, he answered various questions from the participant students.
