Aminul says sports can help curb children’s mobile addiction
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque today said there is no alternative to sports to keep children away from mobile addiction and build a disciplined society.
"We must engage our children in sports," he said while inaugurating the second Junior Karate Championship at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium in the morning.
A total of 1,302 athletes from 79 teams are taking part in the competition, being held after a gap of 15 years.
The State Minister said children have a keen interest in sports, but they often lack adequate opportunities and a suitable environment to participate.
If a proper sporting environment can be ensured for children in every family and community, they will give importance to sports alongside their studies, he said.
This will help children stay away from mobile addiction and lead healthy and fulfilling lives, the state minister added.
Aminul said karate is not merely a sport but also teaches self-defence and plays an important role in building a disciplined society.
Karate Federation president Engineer Abdus Subhan, its general secretary Syed Nuruzzaman and other officials were present at the inaugural ceremony of the event.
