A police officer was killed after being hit by a bus of Balaka Paribahan on the slope of the Khilgaon flyover in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on Monday night. The deceased, Kamrul Islam (37), a sub-inspector (SI), was posted at Motijheel Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The accident occurred around 8:30 pm. He was rescued and taken to Islami Bank Central Hospital in Kakrail, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 9:30 pm. Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Hossain confirmed the matter to Jago News.

According to the OC, SI Kamrul Islam was on his way to work at Motijheel Police Station from his residence in the Basabo area. When he reached the road opposite Khalil’s Meat Shop in Khilgaon, a Balaka Paribahan bus hit his motorcycle, causing him to fall onto the road. Locals rushed him to the hospital in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30 pm. SI Kamrul Islam’s badge number was 9019223215. He lived with his family in a rented apartment in Basabo, Khilgaon. His ancestral home is in Netrakona Sadar Upazila. OC Jahangir Hossain added that the body of the deceased has been kept at Mugda Medical College Hospital. The bus involved in the accident has been seized, and its driver, Jahangir Ahmed Tipu, has been arrested. Legal proceedings are underway.
