Three arrested with arms and cocktails in Khulna

Police arrested three alleged criminals with a foreign-made pistol, four rounds of ammunition and three cocktails in the city on Tuesday night.

The arrests were made around 7:50pm beside Jalal's Flour Mill under the Rupsha Bridge in Lobonchora area, police said.

The arrested were Md Al Amin, 23, Md Rony Molla alias Kasai Rony, 28, and Swara Jomaddar alias Sajal Jomaddar, 26.

Police said the suspects allegedly used the names of two criminal gangs to extort money from river ghat owners and threatened them when their demands were not met.

Acting on information, a police team conducted a raid and arrested the trio after they allegedly tried to flee on a motorcycle.

Assistant Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Md Shafiqul Islam said the arms and explosives were recovered from their possession.

A case has been filed against them, he added.
