Two Poachers Jailed; Deer Hide and Heads Seized in Sundarbans

A court here sent two poachers to jail as they were arrested with a deer hide and heads from the Sundarbans in Mongla upazila of the district.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Bilash Mondal issued the order today after the accused were presented before the Bagerhat Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court.
Earlier, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Forest Department's Kokilmoni Forest Camp Sadiq Mahmud filed a case and presented the accused to the court.
The arrestees were identified as Mamun, 33, son of Sultan Khan, and Md. Abdur Rahim, 21, son of Akkach Sheikh, both from the Chandpai area of Mongla upazila.
According to the case documents, forest guards arrested Mamun and Rahim from Kokilmoni Forest Camp while they illegally entered the sanctuary area on Monday morning to collect crabs.
The forest guards seized 40 kilograms (Kgs) of crabs, 21 'charu' (different types of fishing net) and a solar panel after searching two boats at the scene, it added.
Moreover, a deer hide and three heads of deer with antlers were found hanging from a nearby tree.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Division Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury stated, "The venison had decomposed. We have seized the hide and heads of deer from the scene."
