War of Liberation is the greatest achievement of Bangladesh: Minister
Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today said the War of Liberation is the biggest and most glorious achievement in the thousand-year history of Bangladesh. He vowed to conduct the ministry activities by upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation. The minister made the pledge while exchanging views with officials and employees of the ministry here this morning.
He said the 1971 Liberation War is not only a historical event, but it is a symbol of the nation's identity and pride. So, Azam said, the activities of the ministry will be conducted by upholding the ideals and values ??of the Liberation War. At the meeting, when the officials of the ministry wanted to welcome the newly appointed minister with flowers, he politely declined to accept flowers and thanked them. In this context, Azam said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman does not want unnecessary money to be spent by exchanging flowers as part of the formality.
He said various studies revealed that about Taka 18 crore was spent in buying flowers annually in the country only for ceremonial purposes, which was unnecessary and luxurious expenses. Therefore, he emphasised, the need to set an economical and effective instance by avoiding such expenses. The minister said although he is new to this responsibility, he wants to make the activities of his ministry more dynamic with the cooperation of experienced officials and employees. He urged the officials to work with dedication, professionalism and patriotism.
Liberation War Affairs Secretary Ishrat Chowdhury and senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting. At that time, the officials assured all-out cooperation in implementing the activities of the ministry and expressed their determination to work together to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation.
