10 Dead Including Gunman in Austrian School Shooting

Ten people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting at a high school in Graz, Austria, on Tuesday, according to Mayor Elke Kahr. Kahr called the incident a "terrible tragedy," as reported by the BBC. The victims included seven students and one adult, with several others injured and taken to hospitals. Police believe the gunman, whose identity and motive remain unclear, died by suicide after the attack at BORG Dreierschützengasse high school around 10:00 (09:00 BST). It is not yet known if the gunman was a current or former student. Special forces responded to the scene following a 10:00 a.m. emergency call. By 11:30 a.m., police announced on X that the school had been evacuated, everyone was moved to a safe location, and the situation was "secured" with no ongoing threat. Graz, Austria’s second-largest city with approximately 300,000 residents, is located in the southeast of the country.
