40 maunds jatka seized in Patharghata

The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has seized 40 maunds of jatka in a raid conducted at the Patharghata BFDC Fisheries Landing Center on Saturday morning.
The seized jatka has been handed over to the Patharghata Department of Fisheries, confirmed Patharghata BCG Station Commander Rawnak Shahriar.
According to Patharghata BCG sources, the jatka caught in illegal nets at sea was being sold at auction at the Patharghata Fisheries Landing Center. The raid was conducted at such a time. During the raid, the fish traders fled leaving behind the fish. No one could be arrested from the scene. Later, the jatka was handed over to the Department of Fisheries.
Patharghata Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md Hasibur Haque said, “Forty maunds of jatka were seized and handed over to us. At the end of the legal process, the seized fish was distributed to various orphanages and needy families in the area.”
