A farmer named Iskar Ali of Hemrabari Village in Adarvita Union of Madarganj Upazila of the district has filed a written complaint with Madarganj Police Station accusing cutting down of more than 50 forest trees.

It is known that Iskar Ali planted more than 200 forest trees two kilometers from his house. Since the garden was far away, a vested interest group cut down more than 50 trees in the garden in the dark of night. After cutting and selling the trees for three consecutive nights, he filed a complaint with Madarganj Police Station last Saturday night after receiving the news.

The complainant Iskar Ali said, “I planted more than 200 trees on 90 decimals of the land of BRS Khatian No. 147 and 397 of Porabari Mouza No. 162 of the upazila from 2005 to 2016. But 10-12 people, including Jalal Musulli and Jural Musulli, sons of late Kalim Uddin of Porabari area, cut down the trees with the intention of occupying the land. The value of the cut trees is at least Tk 5 lakh. After the complaint, the police seized 8-10 trees cut down for sale from the spot.”

Attempts to contact the accused Jalal Musulli and Jural Musulli to inform about this matter were not successful. However, their relatives said that there is a dispute between the two parties over the land.

Confirming the complaint, Madarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saifullah Saif said that the cut trees have been seized. Action will be taken after investigation.
