Allegations of irregularities in recruitment of family card manpower in Sundarganj, demand removal of UNO

Leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations have held a protest march demanding the removal of Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Iffat Jahan Tuli and Social Service Officer Rajib Kumar Bagchi, alleging irregularities in the recruitment of supervisors and data collectors for the family card census in Sundarganj under the district of Gaibandha.

At the time, the protesters locked the main gates of the UNO and Social Service Offices.

At the same time, they demanded the cancellation of the published recruitment list and re-appointment on the basis of transparency.

The program was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Upazila Parishad premises. The speakers at the protest rally raised various slogans against the UNO and Social Service Officer, alleging party bias, corruption and nepotism.

Earlier, on Monday the list of information collection supervisors for the entire upazila for the Family Card Census-2026 was published.

Upazila BNP convener Md. Babul Ahmed, member secretary Mahmudul Islam Pramanik, municipal BNP joint convener Iftekhar Hossain Popel and BNP leaders and activists from various levels spoke at the protest march and rally. These speakers said,

Family card information collectors and supervisors have been appointed discriminatoryly under the influence of one party and on the basis of recommendations without following the policy. We demand that this appointment be canceled and re-examination be conducted. If party bias in administrative duties is not stopped, stricter programs will be given.'

They also said - 'We met with the UNO a few days ago and demanded that appointments be made on the basis of transparency. But allegations of appointing incompetent people and fascist workers have been found in the published list. If this list is not canceled, we will be forced to give strict programs in the future.

The program was attended by leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations at various levels, as well as conscious people.

However, Sundarganj Upazila Executive Officer Iffat Jahan Tuli denied the allegations of irregularities in the appointment. He said, "The results have been published following the relevant policies with complete transparency in the appointment of family card information collectors and supervisors. I did not have any single decision here, officials of various departments selected the candidates through a viva board. There is no scope for irregularities here."
