BNP nominates Sanjida Islam Tuli for Dhaka-14 constituency Bangladesh First, BNP nominates Sanjida Islam Tuli for Dhaka-14 constituency Sanjida Islam Tuli, coordinator of Mayer Dak, an organization of families of disappeared persons, has been nominated by BNP for Dhaka-14 constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir officially announced her nomination at a press conference organized at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan on Wednesday.
For years, Tuli has been vocal in her advocacy for justice for disappeared families through Mayer Dak. His brother Sajedul Islam Sumon — the former general secretary of BNP's Ward 25 (Dhaka North City Corporation) — was picked up by plainclothes law enforcement officers from Bashundhara area on December 4, 2013, and has been missing ever since.
This personal tragedy triggered Tuli's activism, which has since grown into a national and international human rights movement against disappearances. On Wednesday at 2 pm, a mass procession was organized from the Martyred Intellectuals Shaheed Minar in Mirpur in support of Tuli's candidacy.
The rally passed through Mazar Road, Shah Ali Mazar, the west side of Sony Cinema Hall, Zoo Road and Commerce College intersection and ended in front of National Bangla High School No. 2.
Advisor Dr. Mahadi Amin, former member secretary of Zubadal Uttar Mustafa Jaglul Pasha Papel, BNP leader Ferdousi Ahmed, ABM Razzak, Gazi Rezanul Rahman Riaz, Shamim Parvez, Humayun Kabir Rawshan, Ziaur Rahman Zia, Hafizul Hasan Shuvro, Alhaj Kafil Uddin, Safayet Rabbi Arafat, Golam Rasul Parvez, Shyamal Ahmed Russell, Swechchhasebak Dal Uttar President Farid Ahmed, General Secretary Mohsin Siddiqui Roni, Chhatra Dal (West) President Robin Khan, and General Secretary Akram Ahmed, Sarwar Alam Pias, Rafiqul Islam Jinnah,Iqbal Hussain Dipu, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz leaders of Kaundia Union BNP, Bangaon Union BNP and other allied organizations. The participants distributed leaflets of BNP's 31-point program and paddy sheaf election symbol among the public. They expressed their confidence and said that BNP's victory in Dhaka-14 constituency under Tuli's leadership will bring a drug-free society and people-oriented development initiatives.
Addressing a rally at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial, Sanjida Islam Tuli said: We speak out against kidnapping, torture and injustice—we stand for truth and justice. All those who have gone missing are my brothers. I am not just the sister of one—I am the sister of thousands of missing brothers. This journey is for them.” She also said: Keeping the youth away from drugs, creating employment and restoring peace. With the spirit of 'Bangladesh first', we will ensure the victory of the sheaf of rice.”
Dhaka-14 constituency consists of parts of Darus Salam, Mirpur, Shah Ali, Rupnagar, Kaundia and Bangao unions. After Tuli's nomination was announced, there was a wave of enthusiasm among BNP workers and supporters across the constituency.
