Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today destroyed a huge quantity of narcotics worth over Taka 73.75 crore seized during various anti-smuggling operations along the border areas under Satkhira Battalion (33 BGB). The destruction was carried out at a formal ceremony titled "Drug Destruction Programme-2026" held at the battalion headquarters in Satkhira this morning, said a BGB press release issued here this afternoon.

Commander of the BGB South-West Region Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan attended the programme as the chief guest. Commanding Officer of Satkhira Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman delivered the welcome address while the chief guest inaugurated the destruction process. The destroyed contraband included 3,791 bottles of liquor, 4,524 bottles of phensedyl and similar narcotics, 47,270 yaba tablets, 33.4 kilograms of cannabis, 72.50 millilitres of LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), 8.583 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), over 63.13 million pieces of illegal medicines and other narcotic substances seized between January 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026. According to the BGB, its personnel conducted numerous drives in the Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa border areas during the period, seizing smuggled goods worth Taka 126.66 crore and arresting 48 people involved in smuggling activities. Of the seized goods, narcotics worth more than Taka 73.75 crore were recovered. Representatives from the district administration, judiciary, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), police, customs authorities and media outlets attended the programme, the release added.
