The 49th battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth about Taka 43,68,00,000 from the bordering areas of the district in the first seven months of the year. The border force also arrested 69 smugglers from the area during their drives. The 49th battalion of the BGB has been guarding the 70-kilometer border of the district with the Indian state of West Bengal and is working to prevent cross-border smuggling.

Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commanding officer (CO) of BGB 49th battalion, said they seized seven kilograms and 554 grams of smuggled gold, 70.5 kilograms of silver, 37,80,000 US dollars, a country-made pistol with seven rounds of bullets, 7,500 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, 1,862 bottles of foreign liquor, 17,000 pieces of narcotic-related injections, 197 kilograms of cannabis, as well as large quantities of Indian sarees, three-piece dresses, blankets, cosmetics, and medicines during this period.
