Container ship's steering gear Malfunctions in port channel
Container ship 'MV CNC Uranus' collided with red buoy number 2 while passing through Karnaphuli Channel and got stuck on the wall; Tugboat, Navy and Coast Guard coordinated the rescue operation, no casualties were reported.
On Monday, at approximately 2:15 pm, the container ship 'MV CNC URANUS' suddenly developed a mechanical fault in its steering system while passing through the Chittagong Port's waterway channel.
The ship lost control and first collided with red buoy number 2 of the channel. Later, it went over the retaining wall and got stuck. Immediately after the incident, the Chittagong Port Authority started emergency rescue and removal operations.
Two tugboats named 'Kandari-4' and 'Kandari-11' have been deployed at the scene. Tugboats are working to safely remove the two ships and ensure normal navigation of the channel.In addition, all the relevant maritime authorities, as well as members of the Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard, are present at the scene and conducting a coordinated rescue operation.
The relevant agencies are working with maximum vigilance to move the ship to a safe position and ensure the safety of the channel.Initially, no casualties or loss of life were reported in the incident. However, the relevant authorities are working to determine the damage to the ship and the actual cause of the accident.
The Chattagram Port Authority said that the situation is being closely monitored and necessary information will be provided in phases regarding the rescue operation and further progress.
