Coordination Meeting Held by DMP on Security Measures for Buddha Purnima Celebration

A coordination meeting was held on Thursday morning (May 8, 2025) at the conference room of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Headquarters. The meeting was presided over by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali, NDC.
In his address, the DMP Commissioner stated that comprehensive security measures have been taken by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in preparation for the upcoming Buddha Purnima. The DMP’s Traffic Division has also made necessary arrangements to ensure smooth vehicular movement around various Buddhist temples during the celebrations.
He further mentioned that sufficient traffic management will be in place along the routes designated for processions. Security at Buddha Purnima venues will include CCTV surveillance, archways, and metal detectors provided by the police.
The coordination meeting was attended by representatives from various Buddhist temples in Dhaka, Buddhist religious leaders, members of intelligence agencies, representatives from specialized police units, Dhaka South and North City Corporations, Fire Service and Civil Defence, DPDC, WASA, the Public Works Department, and other public and private service agencies.
The meeting began with a PowerPoint presentation by DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah, PPM, outlining the overall security plan. Following this, representatives from different organizations participated in an open discussion and shared their valuable suggestions.
Senior police officials including Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, PPM-Seba; Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam, PPM; Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim; and Additional Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, along with joint and deputy commissioners, other police officers, and representatives of related agencies and Buddhist temples were also present at the meeting.
