Eight fishermen and boatmen affected by rising water receive aid in Rajshahi

The district administration today distributed food and financial assistance among eight families of fishermen and boatmen affected by the sudden tidal surge in the Padma River.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam visited the affected houses in the Bottola area of the T-Bandh this morning and distributed the aid.

Earlier, around 10pm last Wednesday, the water level in the Padma in the T-Bandh area suddenly rose, creating large waves like a tidal surge.

As a result, several families of boatmen and fishermen living on the bank were affected. Boats, fishing nets and other equipment were sunk and washed away.

Some members of the fishermen's and boatmen's families were injured while trying to save their means of livelihood.

During the visit, Kazi Shahidul Islam spoke with the fishermen and their families.

He said, 'Due to the sudden tidal surge last Wednesday night, the families of boatmen and fishermen in the T-Bandh area of the Padma have been affected. I have come to inquire about their overall situation. Food items and financial assistance for medical treatment have been given to the affected families.'

He also said that the rise in the water level of the Padma and the situation of the char areas are being regularly monitored by the district administration. Already, food items have been distributed among 200 affected families in Madhya Char of Paba Upazila.

During the visit, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabur Ali and Nezarat Deputy Collector Arif Hossain were present.
