Ensuring public safety police’s foremost responsibility: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has said that the first and foremost duty of a police member is to ensure safety of the public, maintain law and order and work tirelessly to establish justice. Therefore, all members of the police force must perform their duties accordingly, he said. The IGP was addressing as the chief guest at the passing-out parade of the 41st batch of trainee Sub-Inspectors (SIs) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Charghat upazila of Rajshahi today (Wednesday).
He said that in the current global context, the nature of crime is rapidly changing. To combat technology-driven crimes, cybercrime, and militancy, the skills and awareness of police members are extremely crucial. So, they must apply the knowledge gained through training in real-life situations and always keep themselves modern and updated. Addressing the newly trained officers, he said they are not merely joining a job, but dedicating themselves to a noble profession.
The motto of this profession is “Service is religion.” They must perform their duties by upholding the values of standing by people, helping in times of danger, and establishing justice. The new officers should set bright examples of professionalism, discipline, and patriotism, and uphold the reputation of Bangladesh Police. Earlier, the IGP took the salute of the trainee Sub-Inspectors participating in the parade and inspected it. Later, he distributed awards among the trainee SIs who achieved excellence in various categories.
A total of 209 trainee Sub-Inspectors took part in this parade, including five female members. Among others, present at the event were the Principal of Sardah Police Academy GM Azizur Rahman along with public representatives and officials from various departments.
